Test Erno Laszlo, the brand that Marilyn Monroe swore by

You could say that the master of medicine, Dr. Erno Laszlo, was the “it” of skin care at the time. Everyone wanted to know him and everyone wanted to be treated by him.

News spread when Dr Laszlo first treated Hungarian actress Frida Gombaszogi, after she was shot in the face by a rejected suitor in 1920. (We know – savage.)

Word quickly spread about his tenacious skincare that could restore women’s confidence. Before he knew it, everyone wanted to make an appointment with the famous dermatologist.

Once the 1930s passed, Dr. Laszlo shared the importance of washing your face with an oil and following with a cleansing bar. Today, it’s called double cleansing, and it’s only made it more popular.

Naturally, the bright and acclaimed women of Hollywood wanted in on the action – Audrey Hepburn, Jacqueline Lee Kennedy Onassis, the Duchess and Duke of Windsor, Gloria Vanderbilt and bombshell Marilyn Monroe all flocked to Dr. Laszlo.

But there was a catch. You couldn’t just take a bottle of his serum.

No matter who you were, whether you were dripping in diamonds or not, you had to get an appointment with the esteemed Dr. Laszlo himself before you could touch any of his products.

“Erno Laszlo not only heals my skin, he soothes my soul.”

This exclusivity continued into the 2000s, with interested buyers still required to book appointments with Erno Laszlo beauticians at Saks, requiring membership cards (capped at 25,000) and the need to be admitted to an exclusive members-only institute in New York.

These days, anyone can get their hands on the storied Erno Laszlo brand. Fans of famous brands include A-Listers like Kim Kardashian, Zac Posen and Nina Dobrev.

“From his mastery of medicine to his famous clientele, the incredible story of Dr. Erno Laszlo lives on with modern innovations,” said Carla Martinez, General Manager of Erno Laszlo North America. “We delved into the science of skin, emphasizing the connection between skin and mind in every product we make and everything we do.”

My test method

Before I begin, it is important that I let you know how I went about testing these products. Well, I ditched all my other skincare products and went with just the Erno Laszlo line, including an Erno Laszlo face mask, soap, cream, and more. I used each product for three consecutive weeks.

I started my tests with the Erno Laszlo Detox cleansing duo.

If you recall, this was one of Dr. Laszlo’s greatest accomplishments, as the double cleanse method is still used and adored by skincare gurus all over the world.

First, I took two pumps of the Detox Cleansing Oil and rubbed them between my hands to create a light lather. I put it directly on my face (which still had all my mascara, lipstick and foundation from the day).

The oil removed my makeup and impurities perfectly, minimizing the appearance of my pores and leaving my skin looking fresh, not tight or dry.

Next, I took the Sea Mud Deep Cleansing Bar (aka the famous Black Soap) and gently rubbed it along the contours and depth of my face. Then I massaged it in making sure the soap cleans, exfoliates and hydrates my skin.

To say I was impressed is an understatement as my skin was completely clean with flaking or peeling. This kindness continued for the full three weeks.

Although this vitality treatment mask does not need to be used every night, I like to use it at least once a week. Caution, as this product may get a little messy, but so worth it.

First, you will combine the Liquid Activator and Triple Mineral Powder with included Magnesium Carbonate. Then you later apply a thick layer of the concoction to your face avoiding your eyes, eyebrows, hairline or mouth (because no one likes tugging and tugging – ouch!). Then leave it for 10-15 minutes. Before you know it, it’s time to peel off the mask in a downward motion.

I was blown away by the results as this face mask left my skin plump and hydrated while looking luminous and smooth. It makes sense because your hydration levels have been proven to increase by 48% instantly after use.

If you’re like me, you’ve learned to live with flare-ups. However, dealing with the after effects of dark spots is probably the most annoying part of all. Fortunately, I found this serum.

This resurfacing AHA sleep serum packs powerful ingredients in just one bottle to resurface dull, uneven skin and reveal a luminous, youthful complexion.

All I did was apply three drops of this serum after my cleansing routine.

I don’t struggle with sensitive skin so I was able to go for it and use it every night. However, you may need to build a tolerance, so the brand suggests limiting initial use to once or twice a week and increasing frequency as you go.

Take a look at the before and after photos above to see how much it has helped with my dark spots in these quick three weeks.

There was a time in my skincare journey where I neglected my eyes. I just used a generic face moisturizer on my eyes and called it a day. However, the under-eye area is so delicate and deserves its own little bottle of goodness – after all, it’s one of the first areas to show signs of aging.

All this to say that I eagerly jumped at the chance to try Ocuphel Emollient Eye Cream. Made with sunflower oil, carrot seed oil, glycerin, cucumber fruit extract and fatty acids, this cream soothes and smoothes the under eye area.

To apply, I took a pea-sized amount morning and night, warmed it between the tip of my ring finger, and patted it in gently, making sure to go all the way to brown bone and down to the temples.

It caused an instant rush of hydration and also allowed for smoother makeup application as it got rid of the unwanted flakiness of concealer.

There’s nothing quite like a good moisturizer and a rockstar SPF. Without either, your skin will never reach its full glorious potential. So why not combine the two killer products into one?

That’s exactly what Erno Laszlo did with the Firmarine Moisturizer SPF 30. Combining mineral-rich seawater, spirulina maxima, essential amino acids and minerals, this moisturizer helps rejuvenate the skin, target the signs of aging and eliminate toxins.

So how did it work for me? Surprising.

First, it eliminated my extra step of requiring an exterior SPF product. But more than that, it was so soft and creamy on my skin. It absorbed quickly and left my face plump and supple.

This Shake-It tinted treatment is only back for a limited time, so I was excited to try it myself, as it’s one of Erno Laszlo’s beloved picks from Marilyn.

Shake-It Tinted Treatment is a toner that doubles as a universally flattering skin veil to reduce pore size and control excess oil. Best of all, using it was a breeze.

Directly after hydration as directed (yes, after), I gave this bad boy a good shake. Taking a cotton ball, I added a few drops of the toning solution and swiped it all over my face. Once I let the solution dry, my skin neutralized and glowed with a natural glow.

The reason to apply it after your oil-based products is that it creates a perfect matte base for makeup or to wear on its own.

After testing some of Erno Laszlo’s coveted skincare products, I have to say that this brand is well worth the century of hype. I don’t know why I ever dared to doubt Marilyn Monroe’s skin care regimen, but I hope now you don’t have to waste time like me!
